Extra Credit Work
In general, I do not offer opportunities for extra credit work. However, I decided to bend that rule for 4th quarter as I work on a way to make math a bit more interesting and social. I have created a Tumblr page for the students titled, "Ms. Green's Math Page" which can be found at greensmath.tumblr.com . Once a week, I will have a math problem for the students to work on and post their solutions and thought process on the page. I will be encouraging students to comment on other posts to create a productive dialogue between everyone. At this time, it is optional and therefore will be extra credit. To post a response, they will need to have access to a Tumblr account (it's free) and they will title their response, "From (first name initial)(last name initial)(b)(their block number). For example, for me I would put "From DGB2" which means Diana Green block 2. I have explained this to the students, but please feel free to ask me for clarification. I have also explained that this is to be free of negativity and profanity and anything else that would make someone feel uncomfortable. If they do not have access to a Tumblr account, and you do not want them to have access to one, they are able to print off the problem from the page and then turn it in on a piece of paper, but I really would like to discourage that because it would defeat the idea of online dialogue.
