Personal Finance
We are going to finish the school year examining personal finance from a math perspective. In working on this unit, the students will be using Kidblog.org to submit their thoughts on topics and on each other's posts. The link to this is http://kidblog.org/MsGreensAlgebraClass-2/
Each student has been assigned a user name and password. Due to a limited amount of user names that I can have with my kidblog.org account, students are sharing in groups of 3-4. They need to make sure that they sign their name with their responses.

Changes to Extra Credit
Last quarter, there were quite a few students who used extra credit work to bump up their grade. Unfortunately, the majority of students who did this had the low grade due to not turning in their work. Since the purpose of extra credit is to help those students who are doing everything they should, but still have room for improvement in their grade, I am changing my acceptance of extra credit.
If there are any missing assignments in my gradebook, I will not accept extra credit from the student.
If a student reaches three late assignments, I will not accept more than three extra credit assignments total for the quarter.

Changes to grading policy
Due to the large number of unclaimed, nameless work, I will no longer keep a "No Name" box for students to check for missing work. If the assignment is turned in without a name, it will be recycled.
Also, due to the large number of students who do not turn work in until weeks after the due date, I will no longer accept a late assignment after one week late.

After school Assistance
I will only be available for after school help on Tuesday, 3/4/2014, Wednesday, 3/5/2014 and Friday 3/7/2014 this week.
Our current math topic
To help keep things organized, please refer to the tab at the top labelled "Current Topic" for information on what we are doing in class. Because the work that I use in class is usually copyrighted, copies of the work cannot be posted for re-print on my webpage. Also, if the student needs more help on the current topic, have them check out my tumblr page where I have links to specific topic websites. greensmath.tumblr.com
Dress Code
As a reminder, SPIRIT SHIRTS are only to be worn on Friday or days that we have HOME games. SHORTS are to be no more than 4” above the knee, and are not to be cargo style. Also, tied tennis/athletic shoes are REQUIRED for PE. Please see Mrs. Schneider's (and the school policy handbook) for more details.
Welcome to 8th Grade Algebra!
"I try to never stop dreaming when I'm with them. You would think that, as processes unfold, and the dreams never work out in exactly the ways you imagine them, they would get discouraged. But every time we dare to dream, the students dare to dream with us." ~ David Ervin
I am excited to be returning to PECM this year as the 8th Grade Algebra teacher. This will be my eighth year of teaching, and fifth year of teaching middle school math. I am the proud mother of a 21 year-old son and 3 year-old daughter and in my "spare" time, I buy and sell antiques and collectibles locally.
I consider a small area north of Chicago, Illinois, my home, but I have also spent quite a bit of time in Southeast Texas and St. Louis, Missouri. I earned an undergraduate degree and a graduate degree in Business Administration from Fontbonne University in St. Louis, Missouri while my graduate degree in Elementary Education was earned at University of Phoenix here in Arizona. I began working on my PhD in Cognition and Instruction this summer at Grand Canyon University and am excited to be bringing all of that research into the classroom to make this subject as interesting and understandable as possible.
While teaching was always a desire of mine for a career, I actually began my professional life as a hairstylist and then moved into the business world before evolving into a teacher. I am a fan of professional baseball (Arizona Diamondbacks), professional football (Arizona Cardinals and St. Louis Rams), and professional hockey (Phoenix Coyotes). I use a combination of my interests and experiences in my lessons so that there is a real-world application to the concept and gives the learner something to connect with so that there is meaning.
Please feel free to contact me via any means, but the most convenient for me is email.
